BLAIRS, VA -- Commonwealth Home Health Care, a Joint Commission accredited medical equipment company that provides home oxygen, safety, and rehabilitation products, will open an operation in Blairs, the company and Pittsylvania County announced on June 1. With a capital investment of at least $3.5 million, Commonwealth will renovate an unoccupied industrial warehouse to be used for warehousing operations, training, equipment, and additional personnel. The company has committed to creating 26 new jobs through this project.

“I am thrilled that Commonwealth Home Health Care, Inc. is growing its business in the region and opening an operation in Pittsylvania County,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Vic Ingram. “This Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors is committed to investing in economic development so that businesses and the people they employ can thrive. Having a respected company like Commonwealth Home Health Care Inc., which already has ties in our region, choose to invest in Pittsylvania County proves that our efforts are worthwhile.”

Commonwealth Home Health Care (CHHC) is a partner company in the Commonwealth Group consisting of three major corporations: Commonwealth Home Health Care (CHHC), Commonwealth Document Management (CDM) and Fire Safe. Commonwealth Home Health Care (CHHC) has grown in the past 40 years from a company of three employees who began work in the basement of one of our owners to currently employing over 200 people, having offices in Danville (home office), Salem, Martinsville and South Boston, Virginia, and having a footprint as far north as Washington DC and south as Gainesville, Florida.

By adding this location CHHC will be able to continue to grow to include much needed equipment and additional personnel. The facility will house a conference teaching area to offer programs to companies that may not have the necessary space. The expectation is to move all three of the Commonwealth Companies (CHHC, CDM and Fire Safe) operations into this building in phases over the next two years. The current plans are to leave the retail and corporate office location at 479 Piney Forest Road Danville.

Commonwealth Document Management (CDM) is a full-service document management company that was founded in 2011. CDM provides secure, comprehensive, and professional document management solutions which include document shredding, record storage, hard drive destruction, and scanning services for businesses in Virginia and North Carolina.

Fire Safe is a recognized leader in safety and compliance training and fire equipment maintenance. Fire Safe provides partners access to live emergency and nonemergency safety training and compliance for employees, and fire equipment maintenance, cleaning, and sales for businesses.

"We are excited for the expansion of the Commonwealth Companies operations to the Blairs Community,” said Brian Wilson, Chief Operating Officer for the Commonwealth Group. “By adding this location to our organization we will be able to continue our growth to include much needed space, new equipment and additional personnel.”

Pittsylvania County was able to successfully recruit the company’s expansion through a local performance agreement. Commonwealth Home Health Care is locating into an existing 100,000 square foot building located in Blairs.

“I am thrilled that Commonwealth Home Health Care Inc., a company that is widely respected across the State of Virginia, is choosing to expand their operations and locate in Pittsylvania County,” said Ron Scearce, Supervisor for the Westover District where the project is located. “I am appreciative of the investment that Commonwealth is making in Pittsylvania County, which will provide more stable jobs for our region.”

“The expansion of Commonwealth Home Health Care is exciting news for our region,” said Delegate Danny Marshall. “The investment of $3.5 million and 26 jobs will be another positive boost to growing our local economy. It is gratifying that Commonwealth Home Health, a very successful company that is already established in Danville and other locations, chose Pittsylvania County for its expansion. We are excited for their success and know that our region will continue to be a good business investment.” "Commonwealth Home Care has been a quality provider for the region,” said Senator Frank Ruff. “It is great to hear they are investing more for those in our region. Having companies like Commonwealth who can provide for folks in their home is a win for all."
